Guild Wars is getting a fresh lick of paint, some slick new tech, and a new name to match.

ArenaNet has joined forces with co-dev studio 2weeks to launch Guild Wars Reforged, a lovingly updated version of the iconic MMORPG that’s been enchanting players since the mid-2000s. Landing on Steam and Windows PC on December 3, this modernised package wraps all three original campaigns—Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall—into one sleek, controller-ready bundle for just $19.99.

Fully Reforged, Finally on Steam

This isn’t just a re-release. Guild Wars Reforged officially makes the game Steam Deck verified, with full Steam integration and long-requested controller support via XInput.

For newcomers, it’s a one-click ticket to all of Tyria. For veterans, it’s a free update that upgrades the whole experience without touching the charm that made the game a cult hit.

What’s New Under the Hood?

Guild Wars Reforged brings a host of quality-of-life improvements to bring the classic MMO into the modern age:

  • High-DPI support for sharper UI on today’s screens
  • HD skill icons and expanded font scaling
  • Rendering enhancements including ambient occlusion, better bloom, and new antialiasing options
  • 3D environmental audio for more immersive soundscapes
  • A brand-new quest tracker, ideal for players on monitors or TVs

All told, it’s the same core game, now a whole lot easier on the eyes (and thumbs).

A Dev Team with Tyria in Their Blood

The Reforged update is the result of a close partnership between ArenaNet and 2weeks, a studio formed in 2024 by former ArenaNet developers. With over 14 years of combined experience on the original Guild Wars, the 2weeks crew is back to breathe new life into a world they helped build.

“Even after two decades, we’re still passionate about improving the experience of the original Guild Wars for players,” said game director Stephen Clarke-Willson. “The game has a dedicated group of fans, and with this update to modernise the experience, we hope players new and old will find a reason to continue adventuring through Tyria together.”

Brandon Dillon, co-founder of 2weeks, added: “It’s a real treat to revisit the original Guild Wars. Partnering with ArenaNet to update and improve the player experience means the game can continue to be a beloved beacon for fans of multiplayer online RPGs for years to come.”

Time to Rejoin Tyria?

Whether you’re a returning player ready to dust off your old hero or a first-timer looking for a deep, tactical MMO that doesn’t ask for a monthly sub, Guild Wars Reforged might just be your next adventure.
