Where Winds Meet is heading into considerably more dangerous territory on 13 November, as NetEase Games and Everstone Studio introduce Hutuo, a new war-torn region that puts the game’s Wuxia heroism to the test.
The upcoming update throws players into an active battlefield, where protecting innocent lives takes priority over following orders. Alongside a new story chapter, Hutuo brings challenging bosses, new combat encounters, two board game modes and anniversary celebrations.
And if that wasn’t enough, legendary action director Yuen Woo-ping is lending his expertise to a new Dual Spears martial art arriving later in November.
Hutuo Brings Full-Scale Warfare to Where Winds Meet
Rather than focusing solely on individual martial arts battles, Hutuo explores what happens when an entire region becomes consumed by war.
The story centres on the battle of Zhongdu Bridge, where invading forces threaten fleeing civilians. Players must navigate a conflict where loyalty, justice and survival don’t always go hand in hand.
At the heart of the narrative is ‘Xia’, the Wuxia code of justice and guardianship. The new region explores what that philosophy means when following orders could put innocent people in danger.
Hutuo also introduces a battered frontier filled with soldiers questioning their commands, civilians sheltering refugees and ordinary people trying to survive. It’s a different perspective on the Jianghu, with considerably more mud, steel and moral dilemmas.
The update also brings some formidable opponents. The Hutuo River Campaign pits players against Xiao Han, a Khitan general equipped with Blood-forged Super Armor.
Meanwhile, two new World Bosses await those looking for an additional challenge:
- Bingshen: A mysterious enemy found at Moonveil Knoll.
- Yelu Abuli: A Khitan shaman connected to Hutuo’s troubled past.
Dual Spears, Board Games and Anniversary Rewards
Combat is getting another addition later in November with the arrival of the Dual Spears martial art, choreographed under the direction of Yuen Woo-ping, known for his work on Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
The new fighting style combines two complementary approaches. Light Spears focus on aggressive attacks, while Heavy Spears specialise in breaking enemy stances and delivering counterattacks.
A dedicated Dual-Weapon Skill allows players to switch between the two, opening up opportunities for fast-paced combinations.
For anyone needing a break from the battlefield, two new board game modes are also joining Where Winds Meet.
Horse Racing Chess turns players into living board pieces, with dice rolls, familiar Mystic Skills and locations inspired by their Jianghu adventures.
Jianghu Tactics, meanwhile, takes a more strategic approach. Players build customised lineups, manage equipment and position their characters to take advantage of tactical synergies across multiple rounds.
Finally, the Hutuo update coincides with Where Winds Meet’s first global anniversary on 13 November. NetEase Games is promising the game’s most generous anniversary rewards since launch, although the full details have yet to be revealed.
The publisher also confirmed that Where Winds Meet surpassed 100 million players worldwide in August 2026.
Players can get an earlier look at Hutuo, its gameplay additions and the anniversary celebrations during the 1st Anniversary Special Preview Stream on 2 November (UTC).
The Hutuo region arrives in Where Winds Meet on 13 November 2026, with the Dual Spears martial art following later that month.
