Future Trunks is heading to DRAGON BALL FighterZ!

With exciting new gameplay footage straight from EVO, you can watch the official reveal trailer here!

Initially revealed at Microsoft’s E3 press conference earlier this year, DRAGON BALL FighterZ is an upcoming 2.5D fighting game developed by Arc System Works – who’ve made the renowned Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, Double Dragon, and Persona 4 Arena games just to name a few. It is set to be released in 2018 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows (via Steam). A Nintendo Switch port is also being considered – although Bandai Namco have said that they wish to focus on the release of Xenoverse 2 on that platform first, in order to prevent hurting their own sales.

With the disappointment at the reveal of Capcom’s Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, fans are flocking to this game and we can’t help but be hyped along with them!

But what’s the gameplay like?

The gameplay borrows concepts from several other fighting games, primarily the Marvel vs. Capcom series’ control scheme and team mechanics. Players each select three characters to form a team. One character is controlled, and can be switched with one of the other characters at any time. Players can also call one of their other characters to perform an “Assist” move, allowing simultaneous attacks and combos with the entire team. All three of the opponent’s characters must be defeated to win the game.

The universal “Vanish” and “Dragon Rush” moves resemble the Roman Cancel system found in Arc System Works games and Guilty Gear Xrd’s Dust attacks respectively, while the “Super Dash” move resembles the Homing system of Arcana Heart. Players can also “Ki Charge” to manually increase their super meter, similar to previous Dragon Ball fighting games.

If you’re interested in the mechanics of the game, the users over at the official DBFZ subreddit have made an excellent post that you should check out!

With the announcement of this trailer, the confirmed characters so far are:

  • Goku (Super Saiyan)
  • Teen Gohan (Super Saiyan 2)
  • Vegeta (Super Saiyan)
  • Future Trunks (Super Saiyan)
  • Frieza (Final Form, Golden Frieza)
  • Cell (Perfect Form)
  • Majin Buu

With more to follow! We’re personally hoping for the addition of the series’ classic Namekian warrior – Piccolo.
