The CEMU emulator on PC (link) shows some remarkable progress that’s been made over the course of the last few months. However – even on the latest release, the developers have deemed some features as low-priority until more crucial improvements are made to the core emulation. Until recently, this meant that CEMU couldn’t play h264 videos (breaking most cutscenes) and there were no gyroscopic controls (so games like Splatoon felt weird, and Breath of the Wild‘s puzzles were frustrating to say the least).
Fortunately for us, community user rajkosto has made a plugin named CEMUhook that fills in these gaps in the emulator. Among other things, this now means that if you have a Dualshock 3 or Dualshock 4 controller lying around, you can now play several WiiU games on your PC as they were intended to be played!
You can see the whole thing in action in the video below (thanks to the talented reznoire for making this video)
Of course, it’s a rudimentary implementation and improvements will be made in the near future (hopefully including Steam Controller support) but just the fact that it’s a thing is a cause for celebration for all gamers who thought the WiiU Gamepad was unwieldy and awkward and wished for a more standard controller layout.
What do you think about the emulator? What other features do you think need to be added? Feel free to discuss this in the comments section below!
