The team behind Wartile is back, and they’re taking tactical RPGs to tabletop – literally. Successor, a dark fantasy rogue-lite strategy game from Playwood Project, is coming to Steam Early Access on May 29 for both PC and Steam VR.
Diorama-Style Battles with Serious Depth
Set in a beautifully crafted world of miniatures, Successor puts you in the boots of a noble Lord commanding a band of tiny, tough-as-nails warriors. You’ll guide them across procedurally generated kingdoms filled with unique biomes, tricky terrain, and turn-the-tide hazards.
Each board feels like a living tabletop setup, with handcrafted environments and charming visuals that make you feel like you’re playing a high-end fantasy board game, just with a lot more explosions.
Tactics Meet Real-Time Action
The game blends real-time combat with tactical pause, letting you freeze the action to plan your next move, unleash abilities, and then watch the chaos unfold. It’s strategic, satisfying, and built to punish sloppy planning.
Victory feels earned, and defeat is painfully permanent.
What to Expect in Early Access
Launch with a solid chunk of content, Successor will include:
- Procedurally generated kingdoms
- Real-time tactics, with pause
- Deep hero customisation and progression
- Gorgeous diorama visuals
- VR support from day one
Playwood Project has already teased a beefy roadmap with new Lords, regions, enemies, and more to come, shaped by player feedback.
