With just days to go before Dune: Awakening opens its doors on June 5th (for early access players), Funcom has given fans an extended look at what lies beyond the Beta. The latest developer livestream dives deep into the mid-to-endgame experience of this ambitious survival MMO, set in the harsh deserts of Arrakis.
Drawing from Denis Villeneuve’s cinematic take on Dune, the game marks the first time players can explore an open-world version of the iconic planet. And based on what we’ve seen, there’s plenty of spice left to uncover.
As detailed in the official press release, the stream took views beyond the 25% slice of the map seen during the recent Beta Weekend. New areas like the lush O’odham, jagged Hagga Rift, and towering spires of Jabal Eifrit were shown off, each offering unique terrain, enemies, and survival challenges.
You won’t just be wandering the sand, though. Players can rise through the ranks of the Atreides or Harkonnen, take on Imperial Testing Stations, craft high-tier gear, and build their own strongholds. PvE and PvP players alike will have plenty to dig into.
Mid-to-Endgame Highlights
- Massive Map Expansion: Vast biomes beyond Beta zones, each with unique terrain and threats
- Faction Progression: Join Atreides or Harkonnen and influence their power in the Landsraad
- Imperial Schools: Learn skills from Mentats, Bene Gesserit, Swordmasters, and more
- Full Sandbox Combat: Customise your build with weapons, shields, tech, and faction abilities
- Crafting & Survival Systems: Manage resources, build, and battle the harsh world of Arrakis
