Step into fractured time and surreal cathedrals. DESOLUS, a new first-person puzle game from Mark Mayers and the Quantum Astrophysicists Guild, has official been revealed. It’s coming soon to Steam, and there’s a free demon landing from May 29 to June 5 as part of the Cerebral Puzzle Showcase.

Portals, Black Holes, and Crumbling Cities

Set in a haunting city split between past and future, DESOLUS throws you into a maze of impossible architecture. You’ll solve puzzles by opening time portals, using black holes to shift objects, and hopping between different versions of the same space. One moment you’re climbing broken cathedral stairs, the next you’re placing a portal where a wall used to be 100 years ago.

It’s got that Escher meets Half-Life vibe, with twisting rooms, bending gravity, and massive moving structures. Holograms help you shift giant portals across levels, all while the city teeters on the edge of a time-fused apocalypse.

A Decade in the Making

DESOLUS has been crafted by Mark Mayers, who previously worked on Outer Wilds and Manifold Garden, and has spent ten years building this strange, beautiful world. The soundtrack comes from pianist Kyle Landry, known for his YouTube and Twitch performances, while Rain World co-creators James Primate brings the eerie audio design to life.

It’s also picking up attention in the real world, with showcases at DreamHack Dallas (Booth 18), the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Indie Megabooth, MAGFest, and more.
