The team behind Bootstrap Island has dropped a detailed roadmap for what’s ahead, and it’s packed with excited (and terrifying) updates. The hardcore VR survival game is currently in Early Access and it’s path to full release is clear: It’s looking wild.
What’s Already Landed
So far, Bootstrap Island has nailed the basics. Crafting and building are in place, letting you set up shelter and manager your gear. There’s even a brutal boss fight with the Jungle Overload and a full-on dynamic weather system that keeps every playthrough unpredictable.
Major Update 4: Riverlands. Coming This Summer.
Things get wetter and weirder in the next update. Riverlands introduces a new region full of winding rivers and fresh dangers. Think gharials lurking beneath the surface, shocking electric eels, and strong currents that can mess up your survival plans. You’ll also get new resources like tropical fruit and a musket sling to boost your long-range options.
Major Update 5: Visions
After surviving a brutal storm, you’ll face a sickness that brings hallucinations, flashbacks, and all sorts of trippy madness. You’ll need to find new medicinals to stay grounded, all while avoiding new hazards like quicksand. There’s even a new tutorial being added to help fresh players get their bearings.
Full Release Coming Q1 2026
The full launch is aiming for early 2026 and promises a deeper story, more culture, and meaningful interactions. The island’s tribal inhabitants will finally arrive, including a Shaman, with non-verbal communication shaping how they respond to you. Depending on how you handle it, you could build alliances, or make enemies.
Expect new items, unique tribal gear, and even more reasons to get lost in the world of Bootstrap Island.
