The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance was one of my favourite releases of 2019 across TV, games and films. I’ve watched the series and film multiple times in just the few months of 2019 that they were available on Netflix, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t in the midst of another watch-through right now.

I was very interested to hear the show would be receiving a spin-off game in the form of Age of Resistance Tactics, and I enjoyed what I have seen of the trailers and snippets of gameplay shown so far. Tactics makes sense, as I’m not sure what other form a Dark Crystal game could have taken, as playing as skekMal (The Hunter) or skekVar (The General) and slaughtering innocent Gelfling is something I would find quite fun, but I’m not convinced that would gel particularly well with the rest of the fanbase, so this game seems more appropriate.

I don’t think I have ever played a tactics game before. I’ve definitely played plenty of Pokemon games and that could be crudely described as a ‘babies first’ tactics game, so maybe I’m quite experienced with them while not being fully aware that I am. Lack of any real experience aside, I’m sure I will be playing Age of Resistance Tactics not long after release.

Developed by BonusXP and En Masse Entertainment, who are also developing the tie-in game for Stranger Things, this will be my first experience with a title from them. The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics releases for Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Windows and macOS on 4th February 2020, and I am definitely excited to play it when it launches at the end of today.
