So far I’ve had a mix of new and old games, some influences from when I was a lot younger which have made me realise Ubisoft have been a part of my life for a very long time. Well that’s about to end as these are all FAIRLY recent titles. So here we are at the end of the road, my top 5 Ubi games of all time…..
5) Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
Why is this game so good?! It really shouldn’t be as fun as it is, especially for someone like me who doesn’t enjoy strategy games of any type. What’s clever about is that they’ve dumbed it down enough so anyone can jump on but put in enough thought to keep you wanting to play. Mix this fun RTS gameplay with silly Rabbids humour made on the expense of our favourite Nintendo mascots and you’re onto a winner. In fact it was so good it featured in one of my favourite Lightning Caves. I’m also really glad this game meant a Switch game got into my top 5.
4) Assassin’s creed Black Flag
Without this game we wouldn’t have number 1 in this list. Black Flag was the game that took this formula that we’d had for a fair few good games and blew it up, and I believe was the first in the path to what we now have in the way of Creed RPGs. There have been few better feelings that sailing around the seas as a pirate assassin to search for gold and absolutely merc some dudes! The world this game offers is so fresh and vibrant and just entirely enjoyable.
3) Farcry 5
Speaking of doing something different with a proven formula, Farcry 5 managed to do this with astounding results. After playing 3, 4 and primal I was starting to get a little bored of the FC formula as there just didn’t seem to be anything different at a base level with the way the game played out. In swings this title and changes everything I know about the series. Every mission felt unique and different, I didn’t feel like I was just liberating one camp after another with no real change. This was made even better by the random-ish boss battles. Once you filled up a meter which was essentially how much you’d pissed them off, you’d get thrown into some strange fight, and all 3 sub bosses played really differently. The absolute joyous change of 5 makes so very hyped for 6.
2) South Park games
I’ve put both here as they’re pretty inseparable. Very rarely do we get a game that manages to capture the popular culture it’s based on; whether it be movie, TV, book, comic, or anything else. However these games make you feel like you’ve literally stepped into an episode of south park, and not only that there’s an insanely enjoyable game here too! There are so many in-jokes and minigames and just pure fun to be had in these games that it’s hard not to love it, especially if you’re a fan of the series. I always love a game that’s got solid mechanics whilst being an utter joy to play, and this has both in bucket fulls. I can’t wait for the 3rd instalment!
1) Assassins Creed Odyssey
Well for anyone that knows me this won’t be a surprise as I won’t bloody shut up about it, this is the best Creed game and will be in my top 5 of the generation – which is something I never thought I’d say before playing. I’ve written a fair bit about this game, so you can read my full thoughts here, but I really can’t stress simply how much fun this game is! Although I’ve yet to delve really deep into the DLC the 70 hour journey was a joy from start to finish and something I definitely want more of. Levelling the Creed premise up to full on RPG was the best thing Ubisoft ever did.
