Top 10 season is still upon us and whilst I have already completed my top 10 games of 2022, I thought I would take a moment to look forwards at all the games I think I am going to adore in 2023.

10) Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League – May 26th

This is quite low down the list as I am going in with a bit of cautious optimism around this game, given the recent controversy around Gotham Knights (which is fine, even maybe good). The squad based games always feel a bit of a misfire in recent years and I just don’t think Gotham Knights and Avengers game have done this genre any favours. That being said if anyone can pull this off, it’s Rocksteady.

9) Street Fighter 6 – June 2nd

Street Fighter 5 was a bit of a disappointment on launch and whilst Capcom did eventually learn from this and correct many of its past wrongs with patches – the damage was done for many fans.  The exclusion of a story mode and a heavy focus on the online left many fans in the dust when it came to enjoyment of the franchise, with fans boycotting the game as a result.

In what feels like a direct response to this, Street Fighter 6 is seemingly packed with a Tekken Force style story mode with an open world allowing players to go around beating people up and getting into Street Fights. I am here for it.

The protagonist, Luke, looks a bit annoying but he has the same name as me so I love him regardless.

8) Alan Wake 2 – TBA

It finally happened! After the success of the incredible Control and the subsequent success of the Alan Wake Remaster – Alan Wake 2 is coming in 2023! Very little is known about this game at the moment but as a mega fan of the Remedyverse I am sure I will absolutely adore this game.

7) The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – May 12th

The follow up to the PERFECT Breath of the Wild comes in the form of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Everything shown in this trailer has me hype with anticipation and I cannot wait to get my hands on it. As a mega Zelda fanboy this looks like it will tick all the boxes I require from a Zelda game.

6) Resident Evil 4 Remake – March 24th

Resident Evil 4 Remake is a remake of one of the greatest games of all time. This is all I have to say on the Resident Evil 4 Remake at this time.

5) Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – March 17th

A couple years back Fallen Order was released. Whilst I went into this game with high expectations something I didn’t expect was how it would be a Sekiro-like in the Star Wars universe with an incredible story and potentially my favourite Star Wars character of all time.

I expect a lot from Survivor when it releases in March and I believe that this might deliver on everything. Picking up five years after Fallen Order, Survivor shows Cal as a more able, battle hardened Jedi that is perfectly suited to the style of game they are going for.

4) Dead Space Remake – January 27th

I loved The Callisto Protocol. There I’ve said it (again, Callisto also went into my top 10 of 2022). I am a massive fan of Dead Space and think it is a nigh on perfect game. As I have stated in previous articles, survival horror games get a 9 from me for just existing, but this looks like I might stretch to a perfect 10.

3) Spider-Man 2 – Fall 2023

Spider-Man PS4 is one of my all time favourite games. As I write this I have framed Spider-Man comics behind me and a massive image of Venom above my desk. I am a HUGE Spider-Man fan. This game would be way higher up my list but for some reason I just feel like Insomniac might miss the Fall 2023 release window, the game was announced and shown way back in 2021 and we have had next to nothing since – which just fills me with a sense of dread.

Still though, SPIDER-MAN!

2) Like A Dragon: Ishin – February 21st

Fans of the Yakuza series have been begging for Ishin to finally come to the west. We didn’t care how we got it, whether it was a straight port or anything else, we just needed to get our hands on Yakuza but in Feudal Japan.

I could hear the fans from my house scream in delight when we found out that not only was Ishin coming west, it was getting the Kiwami treatment and being fully remade for the PS5. We NEED this game in our lives and I need it ASAP in 2023!

1) Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty – March 3rd

Team Ninja have proven three times now that they are the most competent developers when it comes to creating Soulslikes. With the absolutely phenomenal Nioh, Nioh 2 and even Stranger of Paradise; Team Ninja knows exactly what it’s doing and may even be touted as being AS GOOD as FromSoftware in creating these challenging RPGs.

Wo Long looks to expand on this success by shifting the focus away from the Feudal Japanese roots of Nioh and instead taking a look into the Chinese Dynasty with a focus on Martial Arts. I played the beta of this game and it hit every pressure point for me to make me believe this game will be my Game of the Year in 2023. I just cannot wait to get my hands on it again.

So there we have it, my 10 most hyped games of 2023. I am a little disappointed with everything Final Fantasy 16 has shown in 2022 and that’s why it has resulted in an exclusion from this list. If you told me this earlier in the year I never would have believed you, but here we are. What games are you most excited for in 2023? Let me know in the comments below!
