Happy New Year readers, and welcome back to the first Let’s Talk of 2020! Every Friday we get every one of our charismatic writers together to discuss a new topic and this week it seemed fitting to talk about our predictions for whats to come in the world of video games in 2020. The only twist being that we have to be a bit ballsy with our predictions so we won’t be accepting “The PS5 will come out and it’ll be great”, we’ll be talking crazy stuff here! Let’s not waste anymore time and Let’s Talk our ballsy predictions for 2020…

I have two, one which is not as ballsy and one which is a complete hit and hope. So the first one is that we’ll not only finally get the announcement of the next Batman Arkham game but that it will also release this year, maybe as a launch title for the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X. Either way I’ve got a good feeling about this one as it seems to have been in production for a while now so hopefully it’s good to go!

My more risky prediction is that (just like the new Arkham) we’ll get an announcement AND the release of a Vice City inspired GTA 6 for the new generation of consoles. I have absolutely nothing to base this on but remember you heard it here first!

Surprising NOBODY, I would love to see some DLC for Fallen Order, maybe a prequel arc about the Second Sister? or even the continuing adventures of the Mantis Crew. Basically I just don’t want this Star Wars train in my life to stop rolling… Ever. Seeing as the game was published by EA, a DLC pack is probably quite likely, though developers Respawn aren’t known for them, so i guess it’s a decent 50/50 chance. Besides that though I, Like Mikey have a lot of hope that we might see a new Batman game though I would rather a new IP not tied totally to the Arkhamverse, I’d said for years that we’re overdue a good Superman game so maybe that’ll be on the cards? Let’s face it the bar isn’t exactly set high. Superman 64… Superman Returns. It’s not hard to beat garbage guys! come on!

I don’t really have any BOLD predictions for 2020. I think I can talk more about what I’m looking forward too. The release of the PlayStation 5. I’m pretty hyped about that! And the possible titles coming for it. As mentioned above, the next Batman game is most likely to be a next gen release. Additionally I also think, despite its release date of the PS4, Ghost of Tsushima will be available on next gen too, and that’ll probably sway my decision on whether to buy on PS4 or not, as I’d like to see it running on next gen hardware. I suppose their is one prediction is like to make, a controversial one, I think Cyberpunk 2077 will suffer from over hype and won’t be AS good as people are being led to believe. Mic drop.

In 2020 I would love to see a sequel to Shadow of Mordor that’s actually good. Shadow of War released in 2017 and it was my worst game of that year for slipping standards in combat, an obscenely boring story and an anti-climax of an ending that didn’t deserve an hour of the time spent getting to it. The lootbox debacle also dragged this game further down and the developers should be ashamed of themselves for it.

What I suggest is this: A new sequel to Shadow of Mordor, that builds on the combat and Nemesis system without being a boring grind that is more loathed than loved by the player base. Shadow of Mordor dropped in 2014, Shadow of War in 2017, so it stands to reason following the three year gap trend that a new ‘Shadow of’ game could very well be coming out this year. Despite my hatred of Shadow of War, my massive appreciation and adoration of Shadow of Mordor would overpower that and make the third game in this franchise, if it hasn’t already been scrapped after fan fury, a guaranteed day one purchase for me.

For me, my ballsy prediction is that we’ll see the revival of an old series… Perhaps we’ll see a remake of Devil May Cry 3? Or how about a sequel to Dragon’s Dogma..? No… I think I have it! This year will be the year that Sly Cooper finally returns to glory.

It’s been 6 years now since the supposedly-upcoming-but-now-converted-into-a-TV-series Sly Cooper movie was announced, and nearly 7 years since Thieves in Time ended on that climactic cliffhanger, stranding our poor ringtail in the barren wastes of the Sahara Desert, with no hope in sight…

…A damn good time to revive this poor lad, I say!

Bold predictions for gaming in 2020? Well I’m no good at predictions for gaming, but mine is Psychonauts 2 will be the greatest platformer puzzle story game of 2020… The original was just amazing and I can’t wait to jump back in to Raz’s shoes again; oh and I’m excited to play Psychonauts VR too, but that was out in 2019… And Beyond Good and Evil 2 will get an actual release date, and it’ll be this year… Not holding my breath, though…
