On Thursday, I played through the entirety of the Avengers games new Hawkeye centered expansion that follows (very loosely) the critically acclaimed Future Imperfect story, this was also my first opportunity to play the PS5 upgraded version of the game and whilst Future Imperfect moves the game in a better direction than the base title – it’s still not enough to make me want to sink more than 2 hours into experiencing the story.
Firstly I will say that the map set in an “Old Man Logan” style wasteland was more fun to explore than 400 more AIM corridors, however the reliance on making me experience this single map 4 times in a 2 hour time frame resulted in me growing very tired of the new map very quickly.
The expansion also takes a few queues in expanding the enemy types featured and throws in a few human enemies into the mix which is a huge step in the right direction from beating up the same 3 adaptoids over and over again that the base game had.
The story shines through here and is a really fun 2 hour jaunt into the game again that did make me want to finish and see what it had it store but the whole thing ends so abruptly that it left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth that hasn’t really made me want to go back and experience any of the endgame – which, to be fair, I know is just going to be a boring grindfest for a few cosmetics…
Which brings me onto my next thing: Hiding the only 2 Ronin outfits behind a paywall is not cool Avengers. Not cool at all.
I am going to keep this article short because I don’t want to sit here and spend 700 words slagging off a video game that I really WANT to be wicked. I hope that the newly announce War for Wakanda expansion takes the game and does a full “Taken King” Destiny expansion to it but I have this sneaking suspicion that I am kidding myself and the game I want this to be is never going to appear…
Well not at least until Arkham Knights and Suicide Squad appear anyway.
