At EA’s E3 2018 press conference, Anthem arrived as their heaviest hitter of the show, with a brand new trailer, and a Q&A with various higher-ups within Anthem’s development. The updates focused on the gameplay of Anthem, noting that, most importantly, there will be no lootboxes, and no way to pay for power (Also known as pay-to-win). Microtransactions will most likely be implemented, however Bioware have announced that it’ll be cosmetic and vanity-related items only.
Also displayed were the four main Javelin Exosuits, the Ranger, Colossus, Storm and Interceptor, all of which play differently and can be updated with different skins, shaders and color palettes. Bioware have stated that customisation will be a big focus in Anthem, as Bioware want players to make their story theirs. The game will also feature dynamic events, playable by all players, dynamic weather, and updates that will introduce new lore, characters and interactions that can change even the face of the very planet. The game will focus on a monstrous threat known as the Anthem of Creation, who aim to infect and overrun godly tools left behind during the planet’s creation; also at odds with the player’s civilization of Tarsis are the Dominion, a group of enemy Javelin Exosuit users who aim to weaponize the Anthem of Creation for their own nefarious needs.
The game will be able to be played solo (Although the game will be harder), or with up to 3 friends for 4 player co-op action, with world events having player interaction of unknown limits. Supposedly, Bioware are aiming to create Anthem so it can be expanded for years to come… Hopefully it does a better job than Destiny!!
Anthem is releasing on February 22nd 2019 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC simultaneously.
