This year in my opinion has been pretty good for games, here’s what made my list of top games I’ve enjoyed this year.

6) Disney Dreamlight Valley

Disney Dreamlight Valley released this year in beta. It’s going to become free to play sometime next year though it’s already free if you have Xbox Game Pass. It’s a fun cosy little game with your favourite Disney characters and there’s a pretty good list of characters from Frozen, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King and of course your Disney staples. But most importantly Stitch is now in the game. I love little life simulators like this and there’s promise of much more to come.

5) Pokémon Legends Arceus

Again another fun, simple relaxing type game. I love playing Arceus because I can just go around catching Pokémon, building my Pokédex and basically just chilling in the world. Some of the quests and Pokédex leveling can be tedious but for me it’s a nice time passer.

4) Pokémon Violet

I’m really enjoying the changes in the most recent Pokémon games. The open world and the non linear direction is something that really appeals to me. I love all the new editions and quirks and the whole initial mystery and difference in how the depicted Legendaries are first introduced to you. I’ve been having a lot of fun with it.

3) Tiny Tina’s Wonderland

I have been playing through this game with my partner and I’m really enjoying it. I like the voice overs and the world. The whole Borderlands world is fun. There are a few bits like raids that I’m not particularly stoked about, but all in all it’s a fun game to play for an hour or so with friends.

2) Stray

What can I say about this game which hasn’t already been said? It’s fantastic. From getting to play as a cat to the exploring, puzzles and the way the story unfolds. It’s just brilliant and a beautiful piece of storytelling done through an unlikely protagonist’s eyes.

1) Horizon Forbidden West

Whilst this game did feel like that special something from the original was missing, it was still a visually stunning and lovely piece of storytelling. I was so excited just to be back in the Horizon world, meeting new characters and new people. There were both heartwarming and heartbreaking moments. That ending though….still not sure how I feel about it, but maybe the next instalment will change my mind.

That’s it for the top games I’ve enjoyed this year! Yes I know there are a few notable releases that are missing…but hey…I only have so much time.
