Fancy finding out how well your hometown would cope with a full-blown infected apocalypse? You’ll soon get the chance.

Infection Free Zone launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on August 27, 2026, bringing its real-world map-based survival strategy to consoles.

Developed by Polish studio Jutsu Games, the team behind 911 Operator, 112 Operator and Rustler, Infection Free Zone mixes survival, strategy and city-building. Ultimate Games S.A. is handling the console versions.

The game has already found an audience on PC, where it remains in Early Access. According to the press release, Infection Free Zone currently holds an 80% positive Steam rating from more than 16,000 player reviews.

Survive the apocalypse in your own city

The big hook here is Infection Free Zone’s use of real-world locations.

Using data from OpenStreetMap, players can choose towns and cities from around the world and turn them into their own post-apocalyptic playground. Individual buildings including shops, hospitals and police stations even remain in their real locations.

So yes, there’s every chance your local supermarket could become the last bastion of civilisation. Probably best not to rely on the self-checkouts.

Players take control of a group of survivors and must build an infection-free zone while keeping everyone alive. During the day, that means gathering resources, managing shelter and developing the settlement.

Once night falls, things become considerably less relaxing.

Hordes of infected attack after dark, forcing players to build walls, watchtowers and other defences. Survivors can also be organised into squads for scavenging runs and combat.

Existing buildings can be converted into shelters, warehouses, farms, power plants, factories and research centres. Resource management and production also play a major role, with the ultimate goal of creating a settlement capable of supporting itself.

You won’t be completely alone either. Other survivor groups can appear throughout the game. Some will be hostile, while others may trade with you or even join your settlement.
