This October half term the Science Museum will throw open its doors to gaming fans for Power UP, from 20-31 October. This hands-on and fully interactive gaming event is back by popular demand for a second year, featuring the very best video games, computers and consoles from the past four decades.

Held in partnership with leading gaming specialists European Gaming League (EGL), Power UP will be packed full to the brim with 180 systems and hundreds of games for enthusiasts and beginners to get their gaming fix and game face on. From Pong and Pacman to Minecraft and Mario, there is something to suit everyone, whether they’re parents looking for child-friendly half term activities or games fanatics who want to relive the classics.

Household names PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch will sit alongside retro game-changing consoles such as the SNES, SEGA Dreamcast and the original educational computer, the BBC Micro. Visitors to Power UP will be able to see for themselves just how far gaming culture and technology has advanced in the four decades since early games such as Pong crashed onto the scene, while PlayStation VR will be available to provide a glimpse into what the future may hold.

Several adult-only sessions for ages 18+ will run during the evenings of 26 and 27 October and Power UP will also feature as part of the Science Museum’s Lates on Wednesday 25 October, giving friends and competitive colleagues the perfect opportunity to battle it out on multiplayer classics such as HALO, Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros.

Running alongside Power UP will also be some additional free and fun gaming-themed learning activities for all ages, providing children with an insight into the technology behind the games and putting into context what a career in STEM could deliver.

Michelle Lockhart, Science Museum Group Commercial Director said “We’re delighted that we’re able to bring back Power UP to the Science Museum following a hugely successful run last year. The draw of video games really is universal and that’s reflected in what we’re offering our visitors. There is something on offer for everyone here – from parents who want to show their kids the games they grew up with, to gaming enthusiasts and retro fans who want to relive the classics.”
