Kwalee and solo developer Chris Cote have confirmed that Welcome to Elderfield will launch for PC via Steam on 10 September 2026.

The hand-drawn cozy horror RPG mixes farming, romance, fishing and home decorating with eldritch nightmares, sinister mysteries and the occasional death during sleep. So, fairly standard countryside living.

A Steam demo is available now. It lets players explore part of Elderfield, including the farm, ranch and the game’s first dungeon, which happens to be the local shopping centre. As per the press release, the demo currently holds a 96% Overwhelmingly Positive rating.

Welcome to Elderfield Makes the Abnormal Feel Normal

Welcome to Elderfield is a life-sim RPG set in a town where strange news reports, odd residents and watching eldritch beings are part of daily life.

Players can customise their character and home, build relationships with the locals and even get married. They can also fish, cook, mine, forage and investigate the mysteries surrounding the town.

Of course, relaxing hobbies only go so far when horrifying creatures are lurking outside your front door.

The game features horror manga-inspired artwork alongside a dark lo-fi soundtrack composed by Dated. Together, they give Elderfield its unsettling but strangely inviting atmosphere.

Farming, Tentacles and Questionable Livestock

Running a farm in Elderfield involves more than planting a few carrots and remembering to water them.

Players must cultivate crops, manage bizarre livestock and deal with unruly tentacles spreading across their land. Useful produce includes corn and pumpkins, alongside slightly less conventional options such as teeth and eyeballs.

There is also the possibility that something from the nearby woods may wander onto the farm. Presumably, it will not be there to borrow some sugar.

Gathered materials can be used to build resources, improve equipment and prepare for the dangers waiting beyond town.

Turn-Based Combat With a Cosy Option

Welcome to Elderfield features turn-based combat built around equipment, gathered resources and strategic buffs.

Players looking for a gentler experience can select the cosy difficulty and focus on farming, exploration and relationships. Meanwhile, anyone craving more suffering can face the Old Gods at a tougher difficulty.

The full game will include farming, fishing, mining, foraging, relationships, character customisation and home decoration. It will also include ancient Lovecraftian horrors and repeated death, naturally.

Welcome to Elderfield launches for PC via Steam on 10 September 2026. The demo is available to download now, and the full game can also be wishlisted on Steam.
