If you’ve been itching for another tactical RPG to sing your teeth into, Shrouded Aspect might just be your next obsession. It’s a brand-new CRPG from veteran developers Gilligames, launching on Steam in 2025, and it’s packed with old-school charm, Celtic gods, and tough-as-nails battles.
You’ll be stepping into a world where Despater, the god of death, has come back from the abyss and brought a nasty plague along for the ride. It’s up to Betha, a mysterious young woman with a secret that could change everything, to rally survivors, build a team, and take the fight to the gods.
Expect turn-based combat with loads of tactical depth. Think along the lines of Baldur’s gate, XCOM, or even the underrated classic Gladius. You’ll lead a team made up of warriors, mystics, and wandering rogues, each with their own skills and stories. Terrain and positioning are key, and if one of your crew falls in battle… that’s it. Permadeath’s in full effect.
The game’s campaign is split into 32 scenarios and shaped by the choices you make along the way. Save one village, lose another. Choose who to trust. Who to leave behind. It’s dark, but it makes your decisions feel like they actually matter.
There’s also multiplayer skirmishes if you fancy testing your custom party against mates. Combine that with region-specific recruits and branding paths, and you’ve got a game that’s begging for repeat runs.
Gilligames found Todd Gillissie said it best: “We wanted to tell a story that feels old and powerful… if we’ve done our job right, Shrouded Aspect will stay with you for years to come.”
