Square Enix just dropped a surprise during Sony’s State of Play Japan — the free demo for Octopath Traveler 0 is officially live on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store. And yes, your save carries over into the full game when it hits on December 4, 2025.

You can dive into the opening Prologue and Chapter 1s of the Master of Wealth, Power, and Fame arcs, or sample the Kindlers of the Flame route and its new town-building system in the wrecked village of Wishvale. All in all, there’s up to three hours of playtime on offer, with your custom protagonist front and centre.

This prequel to Champions of the Continent goes big on the drama, putting players at the heart of a quest for restoration and revenge across the land of Orsterra. You’ll build your hero, rebuild your town, and face down divine forces tied to ancient rings (naturally).

Expect the series’ signature mix of:

  • HD-2D visuals
  • Turn-based combat with Break & Boost
  • Path Actions for interacting with the world your way
  • A new town-building mechanic that lets you customise your own hub

Pre-orders are now live, and here’s what’s on offer:

Standard Edition: Base game
Digital Deluxe Edition: Base game, Digital Art Book, Travel Provisions (includes bonus skills, stat-boosting nuts, and town decorations)
Collector’s Edition: Physical collector’s goods, plus the Digital Deluxe Upgrade

Pre-ordering any version nets you a Support Pack:

  • 5x Healing Grape (M)
  • 5x Inspiriting Plum (M)
  • 2x Revitalizing Jam
  • Icewind Mastery Action Skill

And if you’ve got save data from Octopath Traveler, Octopath II, Bravely Default, or the upcoming Dragon Quest HD-2D remakes, you’ll unlock bonus goodies in Octopath Traveler 0 through the Save Data Bonus Campaign.
