Kynseed, the life sim sandbox RPG from Fable veterans at PixelCount Studios, is heading to consoles on 4 August.
The hand-crafted generational adventure will launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. So yes, console players will soon get to farm, fight, forge, flirt, prank villagers, raise a family, and eventually hand the whole glorious mess over to their children.
As per the press release, Kynseed is also getting its free Tavern Update on PC today. This much-requested feature lets players run their own tavern, serve refreshments, manage stock, hire staff, and turn the place into a proper social hub for NPCs.
A Family Tree With Actual Consequences
Developed by veterans of the Fable series, Kynseed starts with players planting a mystical acorn. From there, it grows into a family tree shaped by your choices.
Players can farm the land, raise a family, run businesses, explore the world of Quill, and get tangled up with its many colourful NPCs. Those NPCs age, remember your actions, reveal secrets, and, presumably, never forget that one time you were an absolute menace.
When your character dies, the story does not end. Instead, control passes to their children, letting the adventure continue across generations. It is a neat little reminder that legacy-building is all fun and games until your offspring inherit your questionable life decisions.
The Tavern Update Joins A Big Pile Of New Content
Since launching on PC in December 2022, Kynseed has received more than 10 major updates. These have added new features, fresh systems, and plenty of quality-of-life improvements.
The new Tavern Update lets players serve food and drinks, hire staff, gain useful perks, and create a cosy gathering spot where NPCs can come together.
Other major additions include a deeper story experience, new tasks, new characters, a fresh region, and a new combat level built around gentler story pacing. Players can also unlock hundreds of customisation items for farms, track progress across more than 400 challenges, and enlist NPC friends and family to help build structures, repair areas, and open up new locations.
Console players will get all of this new content at launch, along with an optimised console UI and controls.

Farm, Forge, Fight, And Build A Legacy
Kynseed gives players plenty to get stuck into. You can farm ingredients for food and potions, run a shop, forge tools as a blacksmith, mix cures as an apothecary, or head out into Quill to battle dark faery tale creatures.
There are also relationships to build, materials to gather, proverbs to uncover, and bizarre maladies to cure. In other words, it is the kind of game where you start by planting vegetables and somehow end up managing a business empire while your descendants deal with the fallout.
“Bringing Kynseed to consoles is a milestone we’ve been working toward for a long time,” said PixelCount Co-Founder Neal Whitehead. “The PC community has been incredible and their feedback has helped us make the land of Quill even richer and more vast than it was at launch just over two years ago. We know that many players want to experience the land of Quill on consoles, and we’ve spent a long time ensuring the console experience feels natural, intuitive and complete.”
Sir Ian Livingstone, Chairman of PixelCount Studios, added that Kynseed aims to offer “a level of freedom and legacy-building rarely seen in sandbox RPGs,” covering everything from crafting and exploration to combat, farming, shopkeeping, and family life.
Kynseed launches for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on 4 August. It is available to pre-order now for £19.99, $24.99, or €24.99.
