Indie studios Templo and Rewilder have launched Hellbound Inc., a darkly comic precision platformer that turns the corporate grind into actual eternal damnation.
Available now on Steam, Hellbound Inc. puts players through increasingly brutal delivery routes across a bureaucratic version of Hell. So, essentially, your average Monday morning with slightly more fire.
Hellbound Inc. Turns Hell Into the Ultimate Workplace Nightmare
In Hellbound Inc., you play as an undead courier trapped inside a fulfilment centre that has recently been acquired by Satan.
Inspired by Dante Alighieri’s The Divine Comedy, the game sends players through eight infernal circles of corporate torment. These range from Limbo to Pride, with each circle reimagined as another deeply dysfunctional department in Hell’s worst workplace.
Every circle has its own hub area, where players can meet some suitably bizarre co-workers before heading out on another delivery run.
Those runs take the form of increasingly demanding puzzle-platforming levels. Timing, reflexes and problem-solving all come into play, while the difficulty steadily ramps up as you descend further into corporate misery.
As per the press release, Hellbound Inc. features more than 45 handcrafted levels, with each room built as its own tightly designed delivery puzzle.
Thankfully, instant respawns mean failure does not slow things down for long. Die, retry and immediately have another go at the obstacle that definitely wasn’t your fault the first six times.
Eight Circles, 45+ Levels and Plenty of Pain
Each of Hellbound Inc.’s eight circles brings its own hazards and increasingly chaotic layouts.
The game also features an original soundtrack, with a unique musical theme for every circle of Hell. That should at least give you something suitably dramatic to listen to while repeatedly throwing yourself into the same platforming challenge.
Studio Lead Pradip Romay says that cycle of frustration and eventual success sits at the heart of the game.
“I’m excited for players to discover that moment when frustration turns into mastery. The first time you overcome an obstacle that seemed impossible is incredibly satisfying, and that’s really the emotional core of the game,” Romay said.
