Where Winds Meet has rolled out its Liangzhou update today, opening up the second chapter of the game’s Hexi expansion and giving players a fresh stretch of snow-covered frontier to explore.

As per the press release, this new chapter follows the trek through Jade Gate Pass and swaps those yellow sands for snow-capped mountains, fortified towns and a much harsher corner of the world. So, if you were hoping for a quiet stroll, this does not sound like it.

A big part of the Where Winds Meet Liangzhou update is the arrival of the Heng Blade, a new weapon that looks set to shake up combat in a big way. Everstone Studio describes it as a peak example of Tang Dynasty cold weapon craftsmanship, complete with a straight-angled tip and reverse edge. In gameplay terms, it brings in a new deflect-and-counter system that lets players parry incoming attacks, strike back immediately and break an enemy’s momentum instead of hanging back and waiting for an opening.

That alone could be a game-changer for players who prefer to stay aggressive rather than spend every fight panic-dodging around a boss arena.

The Heng Blade is the star of the Liangzhou update

The new weapon is meant to carry the spirit of a prosperous Tang Dynasty era, with a design that reflects strength and discipline rather than the curved style of a scimitar. Everstone is clearly leaning hard into that identity, and it is not just in the weapon’s look.

The studio says the Heng Blade’s combat animations were designed by Stephen Tung Wai, a seven-time Hong Kong Film Award winner for Best Action Choreography. That is a fairly strong hint that this weapon is meant to feel as stylish as it is deadly.

New bosses, a new sect and a colder side of the frontier

Beyond the weapon, Liangzhou introduces a new region built around frontier-city imagery and a tougher, more war-torn atmosphere. The update also includes two story paths, Liangzhou Melody and Paper Moon, which explore how conflict shapes people’s lives in chaotic times.

Players can also join Raging Tides, a new sect with roots in military service and a focus on battlefield resolve and comradeship. It sounds like the sort of group that would not be big on half measures.

There are fresh boss fights on the way too, including the Moongazing Maiden, the Everdeer, and the giant guardian beast Town Gate Roar, all set against the siege-heavy backdrop of Dasan Pass.

The Where Winds Meet Liangzhou update is available globally now, and Everstone is clearly pitching it as a major new chapter for its free-to-play open-world Wuxia ARPG. Snow, steel and a new way to slap bosses about? That should do nicely.
