Capcom has dropped four old-school heavy hitters onto Steam today, with Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, and Breath of Fire IV all now available on Valve’s storefront.
As per the press release, each game costs £9.99 MSRP, with a limited-time 50% discount running until Wednesday, 15 April at 10:00am PT. So yes, this is your cue to free up some inventory space and pretend your backlog was ever under control.
Just in time for the Resident Evil 30th anniversary, the first three entries in the survival horror series are making their Steam debut together. That means a fresh chance to revisit the early days of zombie-infested mansions, cursed police stations, and one very rude Nemesis encounter.
Across the three games, players can jump back in as Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Claire Redfield while solving puzzles, dodging traps, and dealing with some of the series’ most iconic monsters. You know the sort: Mr. X, Lickers, Nemesis, and plenty of other things that absolutely do not respect personal space.
Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 lead the horror charge
Originally released in 1996, the first Resident Evil kicked off a series that, according to the press release, has now sold more than 183 million units. Not bad for a franchise built on limited ammo, locked doors, and deeply suspicious herbs.
Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis are all said to preserve their original versions on Steam, while also adding quality of life improvements and compatibility enhancements for modern operating systems and controllers. In other words, the old-school fear is intact, but getting the games running should be far less of a boss fight.
Breath of Fire IV also joins Steam today
It is not all survival horror, though. Breath of Fire IV is also out on Steam today, giving RPG fans something a little more heroic to sink into.
The classic role-playing game follows Ryu as he joins forces with other warriors to stop an evil immortal emperor and save the world. Standard RPG stuff, then, but with a much-loved series name attached.
If you fancy revisiting some Capcom history, or finally filling in a few gaps in your retro gaming CV, today’s Steam drop is doing a fair bit of heavy lifting. Just do not blame us when Nemesis shows up and ruins your evening.
