RuneScape: Dragonwilds has thrown open the gates to Dowdun Reach, a new free major update that adds a fresh region, tougher threats, better gear, and dedicated servers for players who fancy surviving Ashenfall with a slightly bigger gang.

As per the press release, the latest update is live now for the Steam Early Access survival crafting game, with Dowdun Reach introducing a cursed fortress, a nasty new boss in the Black Knight Titan, and a stack of new reasons to keep grinding.

Dowdun Reach brings new dangers and Mithril gear

Set in the previously undiscovered continent of Ashenfall, RuneScape: Dragonwilds already lets solo players or teams of up to four explore, craft and survive in a fantasy open world. Now, Dowdun Reach pushes that further with a brand-new region built around a gloomy fortress packed with maze-like structures and hostile forces.

The big threat here is the Black Knight Titan, who rules over the fortress and its less-than-friendly residents. So yes, this is very much a “pack your best gear and hope for the best” kind of update.

That said, there is shiny loot involved, so it is not all bad news.

A new Mithril gear tier arrives with the update, with rich veins of the material spread throughout the fortress for players willing to dig in. From there, players can craft up to eight Mithril weapons, including a Greataxe and Greatsword. Meanwhile, lesser blue dragons roaming the region can be hunted for hides to create a fresh set of dragonhide armour. Players leaning more towards magic are getting something nice too, with mystic robes making their RuneScape: Dragonwilds debut.

Level caps rise and dedicated servers arrive

The launch of Dowdun Reach also raises all skill caps to 99, giving players more room to chase XP and keep the numbers climbing while they explore the new area.

On top of that, dedicated servers are now available for RuneScape: Dragonwilds through Shockbyte. For players using them, party size support increases from four to six players, which means even more pals to drag into danger across Ashenfall.

Looking a little further ahead, April marks the game’s one-year Early Access anniversary, and Jagex says that celebration update will add the long-awaited Fishing Skill, along with new quests, skill spells, decorations, and, naturally, fish to catch and cook.

Dowdun Reach follows the launch of Fellhollow in December 2025 and February’s Beyond the Grave update, with more major content planned through 2026. Next on the roadmap are Umbral Sands in late Q2 and Scorned Wilderness in late Q3, plus monthly updates in between.

In other words, Ashenfall is only getting bigger, stranger and probably a bit more dangerous. Which, to be fair, is exactly what you want from a survival game like this.
