Fatshark’s rat-slaying co-op hit is still pulling in the hordes seven years later—and the End Times are nowhere near finished.
Turns out the rat-slaying never ends. As part of its ongoing 10 Years of Tide bash, Fatshark made Warhammer: Vermintide 2 free-to-keep for four glorious days—and players came charging in. A whopping 5.9 million downloads later, the game’s total lifetime player count has now surged past 25 million since its original 2018 launch. That’s a lot of Skaven getting pancaked.
The Tide Keeps Rising
Fatshark’s Design Director, Joakim Setterberg, gave props to the community in a thank-you straight from the devs:
“A decade on and players are still charging into Vermintide 2, that’s amazing to witness. At Fatshark, our goal has always been to make games that people love to play, and this weekend proved that the passion endures.”
With over 25 million players having taken up arms in the End Times, it’s clear that Vermintide 2 has firmly earned its cult co-op crown.
Return to the Reik Brings Back a Classic
Still riding the wave, Vermintide 2 also dropped fresh content recently with Return to the Reik! This updated mission revives a fan-favourite from the original Vermintide, letting players hop back aboard the Dawnrunner for some seriously cinematic, boat-based chaos. Nostalgic? Yes. Predictable? Not a chance.
Missed the Free Weekend? There’s Still Time to Save
If you didn’t grab the game during the free-to-keep event, don’t stress—Fatshark’s still feeling generous. As part of the 10 Years of Tide festivities, the base game and all DLCs are up to 90% off right now. That’s practically heresy not to check out.
One More Surprise: Darktide Gets a Familiar Voice
The celebration isn’t stopping there. Tim Bentnick—original voice of Vermintide’s stalwart Victor Saltzpyre—is returning to the Warhammer fold as the new voice of the Ogryn class in Darktide. Expect more info on that soon. And yes, it’s as cool as it sounds.
