After skipping E3 last year for the first time in 24 years, Sony will once again be missing the event in 2020 despite the upcoming launch of the PS5.

Speaking to The Verge, a Sony spokesman had the following to say – “After thorough evaluation SIE has decided not to participate in E3 2020. We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year”. This will mark the first time since Microsoft and Sony began going head to head that the two will not have press conferences on the same E3 weekend.

Don’t expect to see much of this innovative logo at E3 2020!

In regards to last year’s E3 event, Sony had the following to say – “PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.”

So as Sony enters into a year where they’ll be launching the PS5, it appears they’ll be doing so without the platform of E3 or any other large event not ran by Sony themselves, leaving Microsoft and their Xbox Series X unopposed in the process.
