Bandai Namco is heading back to Aincrad with Echoes of Aincrad, a new action RPG set in the iconic floating castle from the Sword Art Online universe. As per the press release, this one drops on 10 July 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
The pitch is simple enough: make your own hero, jump into Aincrad, and try not to get folded by everything lurking inside it. Easy, right?

Echoes of Aincrad puts players in the role of a custom-made “player” exploring a vibrant version of Aincrad, with combat built around dodges, parries, and well-timed attacks.
As you move through quests and missions, you’ll be able to upgrade your equipment, weapons, and attributes, while picking special skills that suit your preferred playstyle. So whether you fancy yourself a careful tactician or someone who solves every problem by hitting it harder, there’s room for both.
Partner up or get punished
You will not be tackling Aincrad alone. According to the press release, real-time combat also depends on the partner you bring along for each outing.
That choice affects how they behave in battle, whether they lean more aggressive or take a support role. Better still, building that bond unlocks your partner’s stronger abilities over time. In other words, choosing your travel buddy is not just a vibes-based decision. It matters.
Aincrad is packed with cities, plains, dungeons, and trouble
The game promises a range of locations to explore, from serene plains to dangerous dungeons hiding secrets. Players will also come up against monsters and bosses designed to test their skill and patience all the way through.
