If you’ve ever wanted to play god while a load of cats rewrite history in the background, Meowpire may have just wandered onto your wishlist. Solo developer Kaeru Takeda has announced that the Steam store page for Meowpire is now live as of March 23, 2026.

The game is a spectator simulation and clicker hybrid where cats battle for control of a continent, while players sit above it all like a slightly meddling deity. Which, frankly, is already a strong pitch.

A cat war sim built for your second monitor

Meowpire is less about direct control and more about sitting back and watching chaos unfold. Players observe the world from above as rival cats fight for supremacy, shaping the continent’s history on their own.

Your role is to intervene now and then using Faith Points earned through prayer. That means you can leave the game running at the side of your screen while you work, then dip back in when you fancy nudging feline civilisation in a new direction. Very productive stuff, obviously.

Blessings, plagues and complete cat chaos

The main way players influence events is through Divine Powers. Some of these help the cats along with blessings and hero summons. Others are a lot less kind, bringing storms, earthquakes, plagues and meteors down on the world.

There are also powers designed to throw everything into disarray. You can force ceasefires, break alliances through betrayal and trigger revolutions that kick off territorial uprisings. So if peaceful observation stops being enough, Meowpire seems happy to let you become a menace.

Meowpire also includes a map editor, letting players build their own battlefields by painting in terrain, generating custom maps and placing cats wherever they like.

Other features mentioned in the announcement include three game speed settings, three map types, three difficulty levels, 30 Steam achievements, support for Japanese, English and Chinese, and a chronicle system that records events throughout the game’s history.
