Square Enix has just dropped a free demo for Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, giving fans an early look at the upcoming remake of the classic 2000 RPG. The full game launches on 5 February 2026, but you can start your journey today on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC—and your save data will carry over when the full game arrives.

The demo covers the opening hours of the game, letting you get stuck into the story, explore the world, and try out the revamped combat system. As a little thank you, anyone who plays the demo and later jumps into the full version will unlock a stylish in-game reward: Maribel’s “Day Off Dress”, a cosmetic outfit that shows she’s just as fashionable as she is fierce.

Alongside the demo, Square Enix has released two new trailers. One is the slick new opening cinematic, while the other showcases what’s included in the demo. You can watch both now over on YouTube.

In Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, you’ll set off on a time-travelling adventure as a young hero and their childhood friends, leaving their quiet island behind to restore lands lost to time. The remake stays true to the original story, but everything has been given a modern refresh. Character designs by Akira Toriyama are now brought to life in a hand-crafted 3D style, with environments that feel like vibrant dioramas. Combat has also had a major overhaul, with flashy new abilities like “Let Loose”, a dual-class system called “Moonlighting”, and the return of the Monster Master vocation for summoning creatures in battle.

Pre-orders are open now, and if you buy early, you’ll get some extras like a Dragon Quest VIII costume for the Hero and a few stat-boosting items. There’s also a Digital Deluxe Edition that includes early access, extra costumes, and three DLC packs at launch.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined launches 5 February 2026 on all major platforms for £/$59.99. Rated E10+, it’s shaping up to be the definitive way to experience one of the most ambitious Dragon Quest titles ever made.
