Bungie just dropped a bombshell: Destiny 2’s next big expansion is called Renegades, and it’s striding into town on December 2, 2025. If you’ve ever wished Destiny had a dash of Star Wars swagger, this one’s for you. Think underdog crews, shady deals, and laser-slinging chaos against the Cabal’s newest threat, the Barant Imperium. Oh, and Drifter’s in the mix, obviously — stirring up trouble and dragging you along for the ride.

That’s not all, though. Bungie also launched Ash & Iron, the first big update in the Year of Prophecy, which is free for everyone and live right now.

Life on the Lawless Frontier

The big new toy in Renegades is the Lawless Frontier, a brand-new mode where you’ll be smuggling, bounty hunting, and generally living your best outlaw life. Expect contracts across three planets and six maps, each taking a little inspiration from a galaxy far, far away.

There’s a twist, too: Invasion. Flick this on, and you’re opening the door for other Guardians to crash your mission. It’s more risk, more reward, and a lot more chaos.

Renegades also throws in a new social hub — Tharsis Outpost — and the Notoriety system, where you’ll butter up dodgy Syndicates for shinier loot. And yes, there’s a brand-new weapon archetype: the Blaster. Ammo straight from your reserves, heat management to keep you on edge, and the kind of pew-pew fantasy Destiny players have been begging for.

Story, Crews, and Big Names

Narratively, Renegades puts you at odds with the Vanguard as you side with Drifter and a ragtag bunch of misfits. There are old faces, new allies, and plenty of conspiracies as you claw your way up in the shadows, building influence and sticking it to the Cabal.

The Year of Prophecy Ultimate Edition

Want it all? The Year of Prophecy Ultimate Edition bundles The Edge of Fate, Renegades, The Desert Perpetual raid, a new dungeon, and a stack of goodies — from an Exotic ship and Sparrow to the Exotic Sniper Rifle New Land Beyond. Already got the Standard Edition? You can upgrade and still get the loot.

What You Can Play Right Now

While you’re waiting for December, there’s plenty happening:

  • Ash & Iron update (live now): Back to the Plaguelands for fresh Fireteam Ops, new rewards, and more lore with Maya Sundaresh.
  • Rewards Pass refresh: 110 new ranks, including a Strand Exotic Pulse Rifle and a new ornament set.
  • The Desert Perpetual Epic Raid (Sept 27): New challenges, new loot, new bragging rights.
  • New Exotic Mission (Oct 7): Vex, Cabal, and a Warmind bunker with secrets to uncover.
  • Festival of the Lost (Oct 21): Masks, candy, holofoils — spooky season Destiny style.
  • Call to Arms (Nov 11–Dec 1): PvP madness across Portal activities with seasonal gear to grind.

Destiny 2 is leaning hard into the outlaw fantasy this winter, and Renegades looks like Bungie’s boldest swing in years. Until then, there’s no shortage of events to keep Guardians busy — so saddle up, Guardian, the frontier awaits.
