This week on Trash Talk, the column where I scour Reddit for the most interesting video gaming topic: What game weakened its protagonist most in the gap between games?

I feel like Kratos is too obvious a response to this question, so I’ll take this week in a different direction with my (almost as obvious) pick: Dante.

It helps a lot that Dante makes everything look cool and is faultlessly fun to play as and unlock new weapons with. Starting each game with just his signature sword, Rebellion, makes replaying the older games a little slower to begin with; but as soon as you can start intertwining combos with slashes from it, it works very well. I am aware that Dante is no less lethal following the gap between his games, though he is notoriously inefficient at retaining his arsenal of collected weapons.

It appears Capcom were aware of this minor issue for the most recent game as Devil May Cry 5 begins with Dante having access to both Rebellion and his gauntlets, Balrog.

Let me know in the comments or on the Reddit thread what your pick would be!
