This week on Trash Talk, the column where I scour Reddit for the most interesting video gaming topic: What is the most aggressively mid game you have ever played?
Absolutely without a shadow of doubt: Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.
I don’t mind this game enough to outright hate it, but it took what I loved from the RPG branch of the franchise with Origins and Odyssey and stretched it into unrecognisable oblivion. Boring story, dull open world and unabashed tedium from the moment you arrive in England; after a dozen hours with Valhalla I was convinced it was deliberately wasting my time.
I tried going back to it after a year off, twice, but bounced back off it again inside a handful of hours. Such squandered potential from finally giving players a Viking themed Assassin’s Creed game! The kindest thing I can say about it at this stage is that it technically works, now, after a horrendously buggy launch. An embarrassment to the franchise.
Let me know in the comments or on the Reddit thread what your pick would be!
