This week on Trash Talk, the column where I scour Reddit for the most interesting video gaming topic: What is the best minigame ever?
There are so many options for this week’s topic but ultimately I have to settle on Spheda from Dark Chronicle. I usually dislike golf related mini games, but the easy to learn but hard to master draw of Spheda, coupled with its at time incredible rewards for completing certain levels, mean I will always attempt it after clearing all monsters on each floor.
I think there’s also something alluring about it as it’s presented in game as a reward itself. I had always thought of it as a universally beloved minigame by the Dark Chronicle fandom but upon recently scrolling through the game’s subreddit, always a questionable decision when a topic you love is discussed, found that a lot of players never really get used to it so don’t even attempt it! I’ll never understand that because as far as I’m concerned it’s the best minigame ever!
Would I buy a standalone game for it similar to The Witcher 3’s Gwent spin-off? No I wouldn’t, as I like it within the complete Dark Chronicle experience, and if I ever wanted to play a golf game they’re a dime a dozen on the PlayStation Store.
Let me know in the comments or on the Reddit thread what your pick would be!
