It has been a slow couple of months for game releases; summer always is. The sun is shining and everyone is outside drinking beers and being all around social creatures… Well I am here to bring the good news: The lull is finally over, the sun is starting to go away, and new games are finally within reach.
So let’s take a look at Luke’s top 5 hyped games releasing September 2019!
Releasing September 20th for Nintendo Switch.
Link’s Awakening is my favourite Zelda game of all time, and I believe it to be an absolute masterpiece in gameplay, storytelling and world building. I originally played the original when I was much (much much) younger, and whilst I have played it 3 or 4 more times through since, my biggest gripe with it is that the platform it was originally released on has not aged well and is not as easily accessible as it once was (I don’t have a Wii or WiiU so I don’t even know if it was emulated there).
So you can imagine my delight when this game was announced and I had the chance to get my hands on it again. The only reason it isn’t any higher on this list is that I don’t like Link’s new face…
Sue me.
Releasing September 10th for PC, PS4 & Xbox One
PIRATES. I LOVE pirates and I will literally play any game you can throw at me that have pirates in. I even played Sid Meier’s Pirates just to get a little bit of a pirate fix from video games (if you’re considering it, don’t), so I was absolutely delighted when Greedfall was announced!
A pirate filled RPG that has taken inspiration from Dark Souls and other classic action RPG’s? Yes please, give it to me now. The problem with this game however and the reason it sits nearer the bottom of the list however… Is simply that Bound By Flame and The Technomancer were such disappointments to me I refused to let Spiders hurt me like that again.
Releasing September 27th for PC, PS4 & Xbox One
Anime Dark Souls. Next.
For real though, I have gone on record as saying this game is nothing like a Dark Souls game. Sure it borrows the same basic control scheme and crushing difficulty from the series, but everything else featured within the title is different that if you go into it thinking it’s going to be a Soulslike… You’ll be disappointed.
HOWEVER, I have played the Beta tests for this game and I can confirm that the game is excellent in what it does, and would sit happily on the PS4 of any person who’s into Anime or crushing difficulty spikes.
Releasing September 13 for PC, PS4 & Xbox One
As a recent convert to Borderlands 2, I originally didn’t give a shit when this game was announced. However Will recently pointed out to me that trying to play the game 3 times on my own was “the wrong way to play it” and that I am in fact “a moron for trying”.
So I booted up Borderlands 2 once again, this time accompanied by Will and a couple other people, and y’know what? Borderlands 3 shot right up my hypeometer (going to take that and run with it now), and became one of the games I am most excited for this year.
Tight as hell gunplay, fart jokes and cel shading. Yum yum yum yes please
Releasing September 24th for PC, PS4 & Xbox One.
I LOVED THE SURGE. We did a piece on it long ago about how The Surge isn’t Dark Souls and that’s okay and it really really is.
Again, the original borrows from the Hymn sheet of similar control schemes and difficulty spikes that will make your grandmother cry, but it’s what it does differently that made this game good. Lopping off enemies’ limbs in order to upgrade your own suit was a unique RPG levelling system which showed so much potential.
Unfortunately the original was weighed down by cut and paste enemies and level design… WHICH by the looks of the recently release gameplay videos seems to have been fixed for the sequel.
So that was my top 5 most hyped games for September 2019. What games will you be playing in September? Let us know in the comments below… Likewise if you’ve been sold on any of these games above, consider purchasing through one of our Amazon affiliate links below!
