2022 is upon us, and with it comes possibly the biggest year ever in gaming, provided the 2020 trend of delaying games doesn’t stick around too much anyway! This could be the most difficult year to choose which games I’m most excited for but regardless, I’m going to have a good go at picking them now! Without further ado here are my most anticipated games, that we know about already, due during 2022!

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

The ‘I must kill chaos’ game you may remember the memes about last summer, Stranger of Paradise looks like it’ll put a new spin on the Final Fantasy formula by adding hack and slash / button mash elements. Not the most needed addition, but in a series as old as this one, anything new can only be good, right? Right?!

Visual interpretation of the stubbed toe feeling

I played the demo of this game a couple of times last year and was completely absorbed by the mechanic where you turn injured enemies to crystal and smash them to pieces. It kept tickling the sadistic side of my brain which wants to see the world burn, and provided I get more of that sensation I get the impression Stranger of Paradise and I are going to get along just fine.

Forza Motorsport (8)

With the developers at Turn 10 Studios seeming set on ‘rebooting’ the Motorsport franchise, a baffling idea for a racing simulation comprising of no story whatsoever, I’ve had to put the ‘8’ in brackets as it will be the eighth installment of a long running franchise. I’ve put 183 hours of driving time into Motorsport 7 alone, with the key word there being ‘driving’ as not a second of loading or menu time is included in that total.

The Forza Motorsport and Horizon games are my go-to’s when getting a new album, so I can mute my TV and stick in my headphones so my eyes and hands are kept busy while my ears and brain fuck shit up.

Every car clearly has a lot of thought put into them when it comes to their individual handling on the track, so much so that after a lot of experimenting I’ve found my favourites to jump into and rack up the laps. Shout-outs go to the 1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda, 2017 Ford Focus RS and 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, with my favourite track being Silverstone.

Admittedly, I know next to nothing about this game, but the brief shots of gameplay I’ve seen coupled with the ridiculously stunning environment means Forspoken is currently my most anticipated game for the year!

Take that you Lovecraftian beastie

Taking a modern day game protagonist who is suddenly thrust into a fantasy world and given spectacular powers, count me in!

Horizon Forbidden West

This entry is the most imminently releasing title on this list! If you’ve played Horizon Zero Dawn then you will also likely be excited to get your hands on the sequel when it releases next month(!), but if you haven’t allow to me provide a brief explanation why these games need to be on your radar.

Set on Earth in the distant future, you play as Aloy, a robot-dinosaur slaying heroine, who is one of the most engaging protagonists we have seen in gaming from the last decade. Travelling to what’s left of the United States west coast, Aloy is pitted against new foes, new robots, and new unbelievably beautiful scenery!

Cyber-Bulbasaur is a horrifying reality

God of War: Ragnarök

You knew this game was going to be here, and while it is yet to be provided a concrete date for 2022, the fact the placeholder Sony has given it of September 2022 is good enough for me to believe it will be out this year! The sequel to 2018’s masterpiece, and the final God of War game to be set in Norse mythology, we will finally see Kratos and Atreus take the fight to the door of the Allfather himself, Odin. Kratos must also contend with the delightfully fat representation of Thor we are going to be faced with, voiced by Ryan Hurst no less!

The reasons to be excited for Ragnarök seem to grow with every tiny nugget of news released by the developers, in what promises to be the biggest game of 2022!

Giving up on war, Kratos started a new businesses making sparklers

Honourable mention to Hogwarts Legacy, as while it is currently slated for release this year, from the lack of content we’ve seen from it I remain sceptical this will be the case. Prove me wrong Avalanche Software!

That’ll do it for my picks though I could have gone on and on judging by the huge list of games currently expected to launch in the next twelve months. Let me know which game you’re most excited for in the comments and I will catch you later!
