The trailer for the latest entry into Fox’s X-Men franchise, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, has been released on YouTube after a global premiere on the Late Late Show with James Corden.

The trailer for the 2019 slated release shows a young Jean Grey coming into the care of Professor Xavier (James McAvoy), before flashing forward to a conversation between the Professor and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) that implies that Jean Grey was eventually contained to ‘protect her’. Some point after release, the now young adult Jean (Sophie Turner) leaves the X-Men and turns rogue. Later parts of the trailer suggest both Xavier and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) appear to be competing to win the increasingly turbulent mutant’s loyalty, and stabilise her before she turns into chaos incarnate – the Phoenix Force.

The fourth movie in the younger mutant timeline kicked off by 2011’s First Class, Dark Phoenix will also be Turner’s first time as the lead in a feature film. The trailer, as hosted by the Late Late Show with James Corden, may be found below.
