Pawprint Studio has launched Aniimo, its free-to-play creature-catching open-world RPG, on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The game is available through Steam, the Epic Games Store and Aniimo’s official website on PC, while a mobile release is set to follow on iOS and Android on 23 September. A Mac version is also planned for a later date.

Aniimo has also joined Xbox Game Pass across Cloud, Console and PC.

Catch, Collect and Become Your Aniimo

Players take on the role of Pathfinders exploring the world of Idyll, where more than 200 creatures known as Aniimo can be discovered and collected.

Different creatures and forms can appear depending on factors such as the biome and weather conditions, giving players plenty to search for while exploring the open world.

One of the game’s main mechanics is Twining, which allows players to merge with an Aniimo from their collection and take direct control of it.

Doing so gives access to that creature’s abilities, which can be used for combat, traversal and puzzle solving. It also changes how players explore Idyll, with different Aniimo opening up new ways to navigate the environment.

Among the newer creatures revealed for launch are Squarrel and its evolved form Squashel, a squirrel-like Aniimo built around fast attacks and tail-based combos. Sparkelf also joins the launch roster.

Exploring the World of Idyll

Idyll is split across a number of environments and ecosystems, each containing quests, puzzles, activities and secrets to uncover.

Players also get access to the Homeland system, which provides their own personal area to customise.

Homelands can be decorated and used for farming, harvesting and spending time with collected Aniimo, giving players something a little more relaxed to work on between adventures.

Multiplayer and PvP

Aniimo includes several multiplayer features designed to make teaming up with other players straightforward.

The Horn can be used to call for help from friends or nearby players, while the Flute allows Pathfinders to invite others to their location or find people nearby. Players can also instantly summon allies to their position or follow another player as they explore Idyll.

For those looking for something more competitive, PvP modes are also available.

One of these is Egg Heist, where teams compete to collect valuable resources and escape with them before their opponents.

Xbox Game Pass Rewards

Xbox Game Pass subscribers will also be able to claim an exclusive monthly Aniimo reward pack.

The pack includes one Aniipod Ultra, 15 Growth Flowers and 300 Glimmer.

Aniimo is available now as a free-to-play title on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The iOS and Android versions launch on 23 September 2026, with a Mac release planned for a later date.
