Focus Entertainment and Afterburner Studios have revealed Elta: Defy All Gods, a new science-fantasy action-platformer heading to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in early 2027.

Announced during Opening Night Live, the game mixes free-form melee combat, fluid platforming and sci-fi exploration across a series of corrupted worlds.

Players will not have to wait until 2027 to try it, either. A free Elta: Defy All Gods demo launches across all platforms on 1 October and will feature the beginning of the game.

Elta: Defy All Gods mixes brawling with 3D exploration

In Elta: Defy All Gods, players step into the role of Victus, an elite warrior monk searching for their lost god, Elta.

Victus hopes that restoring Elta’s former power could offer a brighter future for their civilisation. Naturally, that means fighting their way through corrupted worlds alongside a dragon-god companion.

As per the press release, Victus and Elta will become more powerful as the adventure progresses. Players can unlock new martial arts techniques, devastating magic abilities and additional traversal skills.

Combat combines melee attacks with magical powers, with players encouraged to chain their abilities together during explosive group fights.

Platforming is just as important. Each world contains hidden areas and secrets, so players will need to master an expanding set of traversal abilities to reach everything lurking off the beaten path.

Because apparently beating up divine enemies wasn’t enough work already.

Three science-fantasy worlds and plenty of angry gods

Afterburner Studios says Elta: Defy All Gods takes inspiration from both brawlers and 3D Metroidvania games.

The adventure spans three interconnected science-fantasy worlds, with players using acrobatic abilities to uncover new routes and hidden secrets.

Victus can also follow in the footsteps of their ancestors to unlock new fighting moves and movement skills, gradually becoming a stronger champion alongside Elta.

The end goal is fairly modest: bring down the gods responsible for exiling your people for centuries and help Elta put things right.

Afterburner Studios previously developed Dreamscaper, but co-founder and game director Ian Cofino says the team has gone considerably bigger for its second title.

According to Cofino, the studio is building on what it learned about weighty combat, game feel and fluid action, with Focus Entertainment helping the team realise its more ambitious vision.

Elta: Defy All Gods is planned for release in early 2027 on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

A free demo arrives on all three platforms on 1 October, giving players an early chance to test the combat, platforming and god-toppling before the full release.
