Ubisoft is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon with a major free update for Ghost Recon Wildlands.
Ghost Recon Wildlands: Last Rites is available now across Ubisoft+, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. The update adds a new standalone story mission, visual improvements and 60 FPS support.
The fan-favourite Predator event has also returned, just in case fighting heavily armed cartels was starting to feel a little too normal.
Ghost Recon Wildlands: Last Rites Heads Into Cult Territory
Developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux, Last Rites takes the Ghosts into a darker and more oppressive version of Bolivia.
The new mission focuses on Los Penitentes, a fanatical cult driven by faith, sacrifice and violent justice. Players must track down its leader, La Llorona, while moving through dangerous swamps and dense forests.
Visibility is limited, danger is everywhere and the locals do not appear interested in offering a warm anniversary welcome.
As per the press release, Last Rites was designed as an authentic experience for longtime Ghost Recon players. It also aims to celebrate the tactical elements that have defined the franchise over the past 25 years.
“Ghost Recon wouldn’t be where it is today without the passion, dedication, and feedback of its community over the past 25 years,” said creative director Olivier Leonardi.
“With Last Rites, we wanted to create an experience that honours that legacy, something that feels authentic to longtime Ghosts, celebrates what makes this franchise special, and reflects our appreciation for the players who have been with us every step of the way.”
Wildlands Gets 4K Visuals and 60 FPS Support
The update modernises Ghost Recon Wildlands on current-generation consoles and PC.
Players can expect 60 FPS gameplay, improved distance rendering, upgraded lighting and shadows, and a sharper image targeting 4K resolution. That should make tactical mistakes look considerably smoother.
The update also expands Wildlands’ customisation options. Players can adjust gameplay, difficulty, environments and interface settings to create their preferred Ghost Recon experience.
Enemy behaviour, damage values, weapon restrictions, friendly fire, weather and HUD elements can all be changed. These options allow players to fine-tune the game’s realism, challenge and immersion.
The Predator event has also returned, bringing its extraterrestrial threat back to Wildlands once again.
Free Ghost Recon Games Celebrate the Anniversary
Ubisoft is also offering several free Ghost Recon promotions as part of the anniversary celebrations.
Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint will be free to play from 6 August until 10 August. Meanwhile, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier will be free to redeem on PC through Ubisoft Connect from 6 August until 13 August.
Future Soldier puts players in the role of Kozak alongside Team Hunter, offering its own heavily armed vision of warfare’s future.
A Ghost Recon Breakpoint 25th Anniversary Bundle will follow in September. It will include free items such as the M4A1 Tactical Brown, Wolf Enhanced Helmet and Opheis Mk.II Hunter.
Ubisoft has also announced the Ghost Recon Insider Program, giving players an opportunity to help shape the next Ghost Recon game.
