Funcom has released a new Dune: Awakening console deep dive, giving players a closer look at what to expect when the open world survival game hits PlayStation 5 and Xbox on September 22nd.
Already available on PC, Dune: Awakening is inspired by Frank Herbert’s Dune, along with Denis Villeneuve and Legendary Entertainment’s blockbuster film franchise. Now, the sands of Arrakis are getting ready to swallow a whole new wave of console survivors. Lovely place, really. Very murdery.
As per the press release, the new Developer Deep Dive video covers several big console launch features. These include single-player play, scalable difficulty, game customisation, and the full story finale for Book One.
Dune: Awakening Gets a Physical PS5 Release
Funcom has also confirmed that Dune: Awakening will launch physically on PlayStation 5 from September 22nd. Yes, that means an actual disc. In this economy.
For the retail release, Funcom is teaming up with Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe across Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Meanwhile, Solutions 2 GO Inc. will handle North and South America. A Japanese retail release is also planned, with the publisher set to be announced later.
Funcom CEO Rui Casais described the console launch as a “major milestone” and the second launch of Dune: Awakening across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox. He added that the team has spent more than a year expanding and improving the PC version, with those additions and several new features available on all platforms from day one.
Digital pre-orders for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox versions have been available through the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store since June 2nd. Physical PlayStation 5 pre-orders are also now available from select retailers, including Amazon, GameStop, EB Games, and more.
In Japan, Dune: Awakening is expected to release in October, with pre-orders opening soon.
What’s Included in the September Release?
The September 22nd console launch is not just a quick port with sand hastily brushed over it. Funcom says the PlayStation 5 and Xbox versions will offer the same core experience as PC, with console-optimised controls and UI.
Both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will target 60fps in Performance Mode.
The full game can also be played entirely in single-player, supported by scalable difficulty and a wide range of gameplay customisation settings. Players can tweak harvesting rates, experience gain, combat difficulty, and more in single-player or on private servers.
The update also brings the grand finale of Book One, giving Dune: Awakening’s cinematic storyline a dramatic conclusion that can be played from start to finish.
New players on PC and console will also get everything added to the PC version since launch. That includes fully optional PvP, a bigger late-game loop, new locations, new missions, and a stack of quality-of-life improvements.
Dune: Awakening Console Editions and Pre-Order Bonuses
The physical PlayStation 5 edition includes the base game. For a limited time, it also comes with the exclusive Terrarium of Muad’Dib base decoration and a global colour swatch.
Digitally, players can pick up the base game, Deluxe Edition, or Ultimate Edition on PlayStation Store and Xbox Store. Pre-ordering any digital edition includes the Terrarium of Muad’Dib and the global colour swatch.
Pre-ordering the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition also grants a five-day head start. Those editions include additional in-game content, such as DLCs, armour, and building pieces.
With the third film in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune saga heading to cinemas on December 18th, Funcom is positioning the physical PlayStation 5 edition as a timely holiday pick-up for Dune fans.
Dune: Awakening launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox on September 22nd, with the physical PlayStation 5 edition landing on shelves the same day.
