Gothic 1 Remake is out now, which means it is time to return to the Valley of Mines and remember that some RPGs simply do not care about your comfort.

As per the press release, Gothic 1 Remake is now available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The cult RPG has been fully rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, while keeping the atmosphere, story, and brutal charm of the 2001 original intact.

Lovely, really. A magical prison colony, no hand-holding, and several creatures that would like to turn you into floor paste.

Welcome Back To The Valley Of Mines

In Gothic 1 Remake, players step into the battered boots of the Nameless Hero. He has been thrown into the Valley of Mines, a ruthless penal colony trapped behind a magical barrier.

Inside the colony, the prisoners run the place. Naturally, that has gone about as well as you would expect.

Three rival camps are fighting for power, and alliances can shift at any moment. Survival depends on how well you adapt to the world around you. So yes, wandering off without thinking may end badly. Probably very badly.

Players can earn a place in the Old Camp, join the rebels of the New Camp, or follow the strange beliefs of the Swamp Camp. Each path leans into the freedom and tension that helped make the original Gothic such a beloved RPG.

Gothic 1 Remake Keeps The Classic Bite

Originally released in 2001, Gothic built its reputation on immersive world-building, reactive NPC behaviour, tough progression, and a proper sense of player freedom.

The remake aims to preserve those core pillars while modernising the experience for a new generation of players. That means no glowing trail gently dragging you to your next objective. No enemies scaling politely to your level. No safety rails when you wander somewhere wildly above your pay grade.

Basically, if something looks terrifying, it can almost certainly kill you. Consider that both a warning and a welcome mat.

Gothic 1 Remake has been developed by Alkimia Interactive and published by THQ Nordic. It is available now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
