Numskull Games and PASSION Games, working with Hyper Luminal Games, have released The Day I Became a Bird today on PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation. It’s a gentle illustrated adventure about first love, big feelings, and, naturally, birds.

As per the press release, The Day I Became a Bird follows Frank, a quiet child trying to make sense of his first crush. The object of his affection is Sylvia, a girl far more interested in birds than anything else around her, which gives Frank one very specific challenge: somehow win her attention.

That story unfolds across classrooms, playgrounds, and imagined spaces, mixing exploration, collectible elements, and light puzzle-solving with a softer, more reflective tone. Rather than going all in on pressure or pace, this one seems happy to let the emotions do the heavy lifting.

A storybook-style adventure with a softer touch

The game is adapted from a storybook by French author Ingrid Chabbert and Spanish illustrator Guridi, alongside an animated short from Passion Animation. According to the press release, the game carries that same distinctive visual style into an interactive format, leaning into warm presentation and understated gameplay.

The result sounds less like a traditional challenge-driven release and more like a hand-crafted narrative experience. PASSION’s background in animation and storytelling is paired here with Hyper Luminal Games’ knack for heartfelt adventures, with the focus placed on atmosphere, movement, and emotional clarity.

In other words, this is not here to test your reflexes. It is here to make you feel things, which is arguably more dangerous.

Editions, extras, and a London Games Festival nod

The Day I Became a Bird launches in two editions. The standard edition, which includes the base game, is priced at £12.99 / €14.99 / $19.99.

The Feathered Adventurer Edition includes the base game, the film, a digital artbook, and the original soundtrack, and is available on Steam, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation for £17.99 / €19.99 / $24.49.

Players who pick up either edition on Steam or PlayStation will also receive the original short film.

The game has also been selected for the London Games Festival 2026 Official Selection and is playable at the festival’s New Game Plus event on 16 and 17 April.

PASSION Animation founder and CEO Andrew Ruhemann said the team set out to create something “gentle, expressive, and full of feeling,” while Chabbert said she hopes players connect with the tenderness, awkwardness, and quiet courage at the heart of Frank’s story.

So yes, The Day I Became a Bird looks like it is aiming squarely for the soft, story-led crowd. Sometimes you want high-stakes chaos. Sometimes you want a small, heartfelt adventure about a kid, a crush, and a frankly serious commitment to bird-based romance.
