If your horror backlog was not unsettling enough already, KOEI TECMO has now dropped a free SILENT HILL f DLC pack into FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE. Better yet, there is also a new Steam bundle that knocks 10% off both games.
As per the press release, the crossover DLC is available now on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
A free SILENT HILL f costume set joins the nightmare
The new DLC adds Shimizu Hinako’s Navy Sailor School Uniform and Fox Mask from SILENT HILL f.
Mio can wear the Navy Sailor School Uniform, while both Mio and Mayu can equip the Fox Mask. It is a neat little crossover touch, and one that gives FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE a dash of SILENT HILL f’s eerie style.
KONAMI’s SILENT HILL f is described in the release as the latest entry in the long-running psychological horror series, which has sold more than 14 million copies worldwide.
Why FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE still matters
For anyone just catching up, FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE is a full remake of the 2003 PlayStation 2 original, also known as Project Zero II: Crimson Butterfly. It is still one of the most acclaimed entries in the series, and this remake gives it a proper modern horror glow-up.
According to the press release, the remake features upgraded visuals, refined textures, stronger lighting and shadow work, and revamped sound with spatial audio. In other words, it wants to make sure every dark corner feels a bit worse.
The story follows twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura as they enter Minakami Village, a place locked in endless night and guided by a crimson butterfly. When Mayu disappears, Mio must search for her using the Camera Obscura, the series’ signature camera weapon that can capture the supernatural and drive back hostile wraiths.
That camera has also been expanded in the remake. Players can still fight by photographing spirits, but now there are added features such as focus, zoom, filters, and Special Shots for heavier damage and better crowd control when the ghosts get a bit too confident.
Alongside the standard release, players can also pick up the Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes the base game, Digital Soundtrack, Digital Art Book, and a Digital Deluxe Bonus Set with extra costumes and a Deluxe Charm. A Digital Deluxe Upgrade is available separately too.
FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE is out now on PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, with Japanese and English voiceover plus text support for English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese.
So yes, if you fancy mixing one psychological horror series with another, this one has you covered. Free DLC, a fresh Steam discount, and enough masks, cameras, and cursed village energy to ruin everyone’s evening nicely.
