Albion Online is heading to Xbox Series X|S on 21 April, marking the sandbox MMORPG’s first proper step onto console.

Sandbox Interactive says the Xbox launch will bring the full Albion Online experience to a fresh crowd of players, with cross-platform play available across existing servers. Better still, progression carries over between platforms, so anyone already deep into the grind will not need to start from scratch just because they fancy swapping screens.

The big pitch here is simple enough: Albion Online on Xbox is not a cut-down side version. It is the same player-driven sandbox world, now adapted for console play.

Albion Online on Xbox keeps cross-platform play and progression

When Albion Online lands on Xbox Series X|S, players will get full cross-platform play across Xbox, PC and mobile on shared servers. That means the player base stays together rather than being split into awkward little platform islands, which is usually the better outcome for an MMORPG.

The game also supports seamless account linking, with no loss of character progress. Existing players can carry on with their established characters, while new Xbox players can jump in right away and optionally convert to an Albion Online account later to unlock full cross-platform features.

Console controls, reworked UI and keyboard support

To make the move to console fit properly, Albion Online has been adapted with optimised controller schemes and support for keyboard and mouse on Xbox.

Sandbox Interactive has also rebuilt key interfaces for easier navigation and added contextual menus with a smoother UI flow for console play. In plain English, it sounds like the team has done more than just shove a PC MMO onto a pad and hope for the best.

Albion Online launches worldwide on Xbox Series X|S on 21 April.
