Ultra-violent sci-fi action has arrived. ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN is out now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam.
Developed and self-published by Grasshopper Manufacture, this marks a major moment for the studio. It is their first self-published title, and their first brand-new IP in more than five years.
As per the press release, the launch is backed by a stylish trailer featuring music from legendary Japanese rap group Scha Dara Parr. Their music can also be heard throughout the game itself.
A Bloody New IP From Suda51
ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN is the latest project from Goichi Suda, also known as Suda51. The game blends Grasshopper Manufacture’s signature ultra-violent action with an original story focused on love, loss and plenty of gushing red stuff.
It is a return to form for the studio. At the same time, it introduces an entirely new world and cast.
Meet Romeo Stargazer
Players step into the role of Romeo Stargazer, an FBI Space-Time special agent. He is saved from the brink of death by his grandfather’s wild hypertechnology, known as the DeadGear.
As a result, Romeo becomes a DeadMan. He exists in a strange limbo between life and death.
Now, he must hunt the most wanted fugitives in existence. These chases take place across a shattered and fragmented space-time continuum. Thankfully, Romeo is armed with a powerful mix of guns and close-combat weapons.
Space-Time Chaos With Personal Stakes
However, the mission is not just about bounties and bloodshed. Romeo is also searching for his missing girlfriend, Juliet, who vanished without explanation.
This personal mystery runs alongside the game’s relentless action. Together, they drive the story forward through its violent sci-fi universe.
Suda51 on Creating a New Icon
Speaking about the project, Suda51 described ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN as a key step for Grasshopper Manufacture.
He explained that this is the studio’s first original title in some time. The goal was to raise the bar for action games once again.
Suda51 also shared that Romeo was written to leave a strong impression. Not just through his strength, but as a character players could grow attached to. The line “From here on out, you’re a dead man” became central to the story, and later inspired the game’s title.
The hope is that players will want to return to Romeo’s world, even after finishing the main adventure.
