Bond is back, baby. IO Interactive and Amazon MGM Studios have finally peeled back the curtain on 007 First Light, giving us the first proper gameplay deep dive during PlayStation’s State of Play. Not only did we get our first look at rookie Bond in action, we now have a release date: 27 March 2026. The game is heading to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC — and pre-orders are already live.
Bond Begins
First Light isn’t a movie tie-in or remake — it’s a re-imagined origin story, built from scratch. Patrick Gibson (Dexter: Original Sin, The OA) takes the reins as Bond, joined by Priyanga Burford as M, Alastair Mackenzie as Q, Kiera Lester as Moneypenny, and a few new faces including Lennie James as mentor John Greenway.
A Spy With Options
IO Interactive is leaning hard into their “Creative Approach” design philosophy. Missions can be tackled with stealth, improvisation, or all-out action — just like Hitman, but shaken, not stirred.
Here’s what stood out from the showcase:
- Spycraft: eavesdrop, pickpocket, and sleuth for hidden intel.
- Instinct: use Bond’s wits to lure, bluff, or sharpen his focus under fire.
- Q Branch Gadgets: lock picks, distractions, hacking tools — the whole spy toybox.
- Combat: slick melee takedowns, brutal counters, and precision gunplay once that License to Kill kicks in.
Cinematic set-pieces round out the action, including a chess tournament sting in Slovakia, a gala infiltration in London, high-speed chases, shootouts aboard a hacked plane, and — naturally — a mid-air drop without a parachute.
