The skies (and seas) are calling — and the legendary duo is back to make waves. Pokémon TCG Pocket is dropping its next big expansion, Wisdom of Sea and Sky, on 30 July, and it’s set to give longtime Johto fans a serious nostalgia punch.

Lugia, Ho-Oh, and Johto’s Starters Return

The new expansion puts iconic legendaries Lugia and Ho-Oh front and centre, alongside fan-favourite starters Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile all from the classic Gold and Silver era. Even better? There’s a fresh twist: new cards featuring attacks that don’t require Energy. That’s right, it’s time to rethink your deck strategies.

Trading System Overhaul Incoming

Also rolling out on 30 July, Pokémon TCG Pocket is getting a long-overdue upgrade to its trading feature. Here’s what’s changing:

  • Wishlist System: You’ll be able to flag up to 20 cards you want and showcase three favourites right on your profile.
  • Bye-bye, trade tokens: They’re being phased out. Instead, trades will now use a new currency called shinedust, earned from duplicates and in-game missions. Rare cards (♦♦♦ and up) will require more of it, naturally.

If you’ve still got trade tokens lying around, you’ll be able to swap them for pack hourglasses and shinedust in the shop. But heads-up — once the update hits at 01:00 UTC, 30 July, you won’t be able to trade cards for tokens anymore.

If you’ve been waiting for a reason to dive back into Pokémon TCG Pocket, this might just be it. Legendary ‘mons, a slicker trade system, and zero-energy surprises? Time to update that app.
