Continuing on from my recent list ranking my favourite weapons in Lies of P and its expansion Overture, it’s time for the top three!

3) Proof of Humanity

I found the optional boss at the end of the main story, the Nameless Puppet, to be by far the most infuriating encounter in the entire base game. Fortunately if you manage to defeat it, the weapon you can trade for its boss Ergo is also the weapon it uses against you during its fight! Proof of Humanity; a most worthy reward for such a gruelling final showdown. Capable of being split like the world’s coolest and most elaborate pair of scissors, Proof of Humanity switches between single blade light attacks and double blades for heavy, allowing all players who choose it to indomitably breeze through pretty much the entirety of new game plus.

Its main attacking Fable Art, Link Slash, is immensely powerful and one of the quickest ways I found to stagger bosses throughout the base game. Proof of Humanity is one of the few weapons I used exclusively for an entire playthrough without being tempted to alternate with another weapon, purely for the spectacle and fun factor in wielding the sword of an enemy who gave me so much trouble on almost all of my early playthroughs.

Despite being marred by the same criticism I levelled against Monad’s Rose Sword in the first half of this list, mainly the very late timing of it becoming accessible, I favour Proof of Humanity so much more because it’s the weapon actually used by the boss I fought to get it. I like to think taking, using and P being so efficient with Nameless Puppet’s signature weapon adds a little insult to injury in their death, for which I couldn’t be more pleased.

Note for any new Lies of P players: Upon defeating Nameless Puppet, make sure you return to Hotel Krat before commencing new game plus, as you’ll have to wait for the boss Ergo vendor to become available in chapter 4 if you forget to redeem beforehand!

2) Two Dragons Sword

It’s a widely accepted fact in video games that a samurai sword makes all things better; a fact exemplified in its strongest case with Lies of P. Becoming available for purchase from the boss Ergo merchant for defeating chapter 7’s boss, the Two Dragons Sword is a weapon that changes P from a competent and skilled fighter to a sharp, stylish maelstrom. The heavy lunges and sluggish swipes are a thing of the past upon equipping the Two Dragons, with every individual attack feeling like a celebration in which all participants die from over-exposure to unrelenting flair. As the wielder of the sword, you are exempt from the death component of this particular party.

As if the Two Dragons Sword couldn’t be any cooler its Fable Art, Wind of Swords, fires a sharp vertical slice of light in front of you, meaning you can literally deal projectile damage while the blade remains in your hands.

The first time I used it during my original new game plus playthrough was one of my happiest moments in Lies of P, and it carried me through the entirety of that run. This weapon alone is enough for me to recommend Lies of P to anyone, despite it not even being the number one weapon on this list, which surely has to go to!..

1) Puppet Ripper

The Puppet Ripper is a scythe whip. Even saying that I don’t feel I’m doing it enough justice so I’ll say it again. SCYTHE WHIP! This isn’t just my favourite weapon in Lies of P, it’s my favourite weapon in all of gaming. Unlocked during the stage in the story where shit really gets real, which is also directly before the closest Lies of P gets to resembling a horror game, the Puppet Ripper does everything it says on the tin and a whole firework display of splendour besides!

Even before you get to upgrade it for the first time the damage it deals is heavy; assisted to no end by the fact its whip component can be broken out at a moment’s notice to kill / dismember / stun all those in your vicinity you wish those circumstances upon. But it doesn’t stop there, as both of the Puppet Ripper’s Fable Arts are tremendously powerful as well! Choosing between Quick Upward Slash which lands a brutal uppercut against a single target, or Storm Spinning Slash that swings the scythe around P multiple times to obliterate an entire group of Puppets or Carcasses; the Puppet Ripper has a ruthless killing blow in the tank for any and all occasions!

The Puppet Ripper is truly my favourite weapon in gaming from at least the last decade, and that alone should be enough to recommend trying Lies of P if you haven’t already, let alone the multitude of other reasons contained within this ranking!

What’s your favourite weapon from Lies of P and Overture? Let me know in the comments, and thanks for reading.
