Recently announced by Nintendo Europe’s Twitter account (@NintendoEurope), Octopath Traveler has successfully shipped 1,000,000 units globally – This includes both physical sales and digital eShop sales.

This is an incredible feat for a brand new IP coming from Square Enix, especially with Nintendo Switch exclusivity, and paints a healthy picture for JRPG fans for the immediate and distant future of the Nintendo Switch’s JRPG library; for reference, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild had sold an estimated 2.76 million copies in its’ first month, and Square Enix’s latest new and popular JRPG franchise, Bravely Default, had only sold 1,000,000 copies within two years of its’ release.

We here at Respawning give our upmost congratulations to Square Enix, and wish them further success with Octopath Traveler! Now if you guys could port most of your other JRPG’s to the Switch… That would be great…
